It (Quick Takes)

12th October 2017 - Movies
It was absolutely terrifying. It is also the second-highest grossing horror movie ever, coming in second to The Exorcist (this is all adjusted for inflation, of course). While the eponymous being was the star of the show, I was pleasantly surprised that the other characters, namely the children from The Losers Gang were also very fleshed out. The banter between the kids is fresh and authentic, reminiscent of secondary school shenanigans and awful jokes. Some of the children also have their own obstacles at home, grieving families or sexually abusive parents – both of which, they overcome at the end of the movie.
Each of the kids is a tormented by a shape-shifting demon who calls himself ‘Pennywise the Dancing Clown’, who takes the form of their greatest fears. The scares are predictable with the appropriate mood and music leading up to every jump scare but the grotesque, ugliness of it all makes it a shock every time.
